IPOH: The anti-hudud campaign started by the Ipoh Timur MCA division last week continues to draw supporters, with more than 200 signatures collected within three hours when the petition drive was held at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Recreational Park here.
The petition drive at the park the second venue since the campaign started at the Pasir Pasir Pinji market on Oct 14 began at 7am yesterday.
“The division will conduct the campaign every week until the end of the year,” division chief Datuk Thong Fah Chong said.
At the end of the period, the petition would be handed over to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Thong said most people knew only a little about hudud laws and assumed they would not be affected if the laws are enforced.
Division deputy chief San Chak Chun said he feared that hudud laws would destroy harmony and divide the people.
He added that hudud laws would not protect non-Muslims, saying common law would be discarded when hudud was implemented.
