Speaking up for religious tolerance

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/4/18/focus/11122764&sec=focus

Differences of religion should not make people fight one another, rather they should cooperate in doing good and warding off evil.

AS a Muslim I am deeply distressed and perplexed at the incendiary view, allegedly emanating from the Saudi Grand Mufti, that all churches in the Arab peninsula be destroyed.

This view, if it were really expressed, is offensive. It violates all canons of decency, international law and the human rights of our Christian brothers.

Anak tak sah taraf: Mufti Perlis nasihat ibu bapa cabar JPN

Groups: Sex guide reinforces gender stereotypes

PETALING JAYA: The controversial sex guide by the Obedient Wives Club (OWC) reinforces gender stereotypes, say women's groups.
All Women's Action Society (Awam) programme manager Betty Yeohsaid the book portrayed women as sex objects.
“It goes against gender equality and what women's groups have been fighting for all this while.
“The views expressed are backward when everybody is moving forward,” Yeoh said.
Club founder Hatijah Aam, who is also the author of the controversial book Seks Islam Perangi Yahudi Untuk Kembalikan Seks Islam Kepada Dunia (Sex in Islam Wage War Against Jews to Return Islamic Sex to the World), said that when a man reached the highest spiritual level, “he can appear in multiple apparitions and have sex with his wives even though they are in separate locations”.
She said this meant that when a man has reached the highest spiritual level, he will be granted the ability to have sex with his wives spiritually.
Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) executive director Ivy Josiah said they did not agree with the views expressed in the book.
“We are confident that people will reject their ideas,” she said.
Empower (Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor) programme officer A. Janarthini said a mature reading public should be able to determine what are positive values to be emulated.
Hatijah said the book would soon be launched globally in countries where OWCs have already been set up, including Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Britain and France.
However, the club does not intend to launch the book in Malaysia.
